Post by Roderich Edelstein on Mar 22, 2010 13:44:18 GMT -5
Roderich sighed as he lifted the violin to his chin and began to play. It was only a few hours ago that a young noblewoman had stopped him in the marketplace and requested he play at some kind of dance party. Her offer was, literally, too good to refuse, which was why he sat atop a platform with other (far less-talented) violinists wearing a purple mask around his eyes and a frown on his face. He'd left a note for Gilbert on the kitchen counter explaining his whereabouts before leaving that afternoon.
He had never liked masquerades. It made it more difficult to accurately read someone's expression; a fact of which several in this crowd had already taken advantage. He suspected by the end of the night there would be quite a few pockets picked by uninvited "guests," and he wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the young men (and perhaps the young women as well) decided to start a brawl.
Really, whoever was in charge of planning this party had excellent taste in food, wine, and entertainment (obviously, he was here), but not so much in the way of common sense. If there were invitations, they were unchecked; Roderich had managed to walk right in without question.
Hopefully the pay would be worth the boredom of the next few hours. That, or perhaps -- Roderich raised an eyebrow at the thought -- something interesting would happen.
---------- Welcome to the first event, run by your humble mod Jade~ This is a good chance for characters to dress up all pretty interact with other characters they normally wouldn't have a chance to... *stalks Prussia with Romano* So basically have fun, and I shall be here to guide you through~

Antonio smiled, genial, practiced but still very natural as he took an unnamed woman's hand and lead her to the dance floor. They had made small talk and the Spaniard tried his best not to let any words from his native tongue slip, lest he wanted to be figured out --which was exactly the fun in these sort of things, after all. The mystery behind each person and a chance to be somebody you aren't on a daily basis.
Some, however, were just that easy to place. Antonio had a good memory of certain key characteristics of the people he would meet. That didn't matter, so as long as nobody knew of the knight for now. His intent to keep his identity hidden managed to make him comb his hair back even. It was good that a tan skin-tone was not uncommon amongst people here and that he didn't stand out so much as he initially thought he would. His hands were even gloved today, despite hating them so much, just so whoever he might've touched with them before would not recognize the rough and calloused texture that could only belong to this knight.
Once that much was given away, he was sure to be found out.
He let go of her hand, the waltz ending almost abruptly as his thoughts had scurried off somewhere during the dance.
It was wonder how he managed not to step on her feet.
"It was my pleasure," He said with a bow, cutting the 'Senorita' off before it could escape his lips. His feet took him to the far end of the ballroom, back light against one of the white columns as he watched, through a white mask lined with gold, the people pass him by, occasionally nodding politely to those who chose to greet him.
As of late, he had declined most invitations to dance. Tonight, he permitted himself to be a little selfish (although when was he not?), waiting for somebody interesting to come by before he either agreed or he left his idle position for awhile to ask himself.

Parties had never been something that Gilbert enjoyed. There were too many people stuffed together in one location, and far too many smells blended together and mixed with the strong scent of various alcohols. Normally, the Prussian would have been more than thrilled at the idea of having free drinks being shoved at him from every direction and taken more than enough to get even his immortal body completed wasted, but this time he had other plans. The note Roderich had left him was more than interesting, and he'd wasted no time in fishing out a suit and making his way toward the address left.
The black silk hugged his figure nicely, matching his crimson vest and white shirt. Snowy gloves adorned his hands, making his long and elegant fingers appear slimmer than normal, and a pair of thing black glasses sat on his nose. His hair, for once, was brushed back, the bangs out of his face and held with a special gel that kept it from moving, but soft to the touch at the same time.
When he'd reached the door, his glasses were switched for a plain white phantom's mask that covered his face and shadowed his crimson eyes, giving him a much more human-like appearance. It would keep his identity a secret for now, and hopefully keep anyone who got too curious at bay long enough for him to get what he wanted. After all, it would be a pity for him to come all that way if he couldn't get at least one dance.
Positioning himself against a wall near the orchestra, his eyes focused in on his brunette contractor, easy for Gilbert to pin-point through both sound and appearance. He smiled faintly, tilting his head to the side with interest as he waited for Roderich's first break and the chance to intercept him before anyone else tried.

Why do I feel I'm the only girl here? ~-~-~-~ Going to a formal event wasn't new to Seraphine's routine. She had spent at least 25% of her time in her childhood going to formal events. Her most favorite were the masquerade parties. Being her normal mysterious self, Seraphine need not to act proper in front of all the guests. Tonight, she would be free and have some fun. She wore a dark lavender eye piece dark enough to make the illusion of a darker green for her eyes. A dark-lavender also suited her as she wore a tube dress with a corset to give her more of a figure (she had a terribly hard time breathing while her helper put it on her). Around her neck was simple necklace her father gave her before he passed away. Simple, but elegant. Finally, her hair was tied up with some curls dangling here and there.
She didn't go unnoticed like she wanted to. After a few small conversations, some man (she couldn't even tell if it was a man or woman) had lead her to the dance floor as the first song played. Of course, she didn't want to spoil anyone's fun for the night as she has been for the past few nights. She had hoped maybe someone she knew was there. But behind these masks, they could be anyone. Maybe she could not recognize them. But for now, let her mingle well. She had tried to make small talk. But it seems the person she was dancing with had not wished to speak to her.
"How boring..." she thought as she danced through with ease. She wanted the dance to end quickly so that she may resume watching the others. If the people here did not wish to speak to her, then they should not have decided to dance with her in the first place. Once the dance was over, she bowed down to her partner not saying a word to him, she walked off.
"I thought these were supposed to be fun..."

Diran stepped into another world- a world of the rich. How glamorous and exciting this was, how alluring, and how potentially dangerous it was for someone with as little money as he to even be here! The musicians were talented- although one violinist stood out from the rest, pulling tender notes from the strings as if by magic- the food looked delicious, and the people looked fascinating.
As his clothes were not really suited to dressing up and going anywhere fancy, he had used another pair from his satchel that he kept for occassions. He wore a dark cotton shirt, the color of his eyes, and a pair of bright blue trousers. As this was a masquerade, he had put on a navy blue eyemask, removed his gloves, and had pulled his hair back into a loose ponytail- it was the only way to flatten the stubborn hairs in the back.
A wine glass held delicately in one hand, he migrated through the throng. Normally he wouldn't let himself be in such close proximity to so many people, but he was determined not to feel uncomfortable about it; this was a party, the first he had been to in a long while, and he was not going to get in his own way over it. There were too many people to meet.
Dark lavender and blonde curls caught his eye, and he navigated himself towards Seraphine without recognizing her. Setting down the wine glass, untasted, he stood in front of her and bowed, taking her hand. "Would you like to dance? The music is lovely."
A white mask lined with gold caught his eye and he glanced away for a few moments. He thought he had seen his Spanish friend, but decided that he must have been mistaked- the man he was looking at wasn't dancing, and he had expected Antonio to be dancing with whoever possible. Would he dance with another m- Diran blinked out of his rambling thoughts and returned his gaze to Seraphine's dark green eyes.

Once getting out of a dance, another one found his way towards her. Seeing as she didn't have much fun for the first dance, she had a horrible time turning down the next one. The man, who seemed a bit shorter than her, took her hand as if to lead her to the dance floor, that smile on his face didn't tell a lie. She could read him quickly like a book. "I am terribly sorry. But you must forgive my rudeness for now. I must refuse as the last dance, my partner kept on stepping on my foot." Seraphine had to turn down as she still felt the throbbing pain in her foot.
Whoever she danced with last was a very bad dancer. How dare he step on her foot! "Maybe later then?" Seraphine tried to complied to whoever was holding her hand now. She slowly took her hand away and made her way outside to the veranda where the cool night air slowly brushed against her cheeks. Taking a glimpse inside, she felt that unwary presence around again. And not noticing it for the meantime, she clutched her stomach as she started to feel pains.
It didn't hurt as much. But this time, there was something there she did not like. After a few moments passed, she felt a familiar presence nearby. Looking down at the veranda to the new comers who had arrived, she was looking for a friend of hers whom, let's say, she pleaded and begged to come. Telling that friend what she was going to wear, she hoped that he would still recognize her even under all the masks. But, her friend needs to come. Closing her eyes for a moment, and mumbling a few quick phrases in her native tongue, she tried to sense the presence of the person she was looking for. Opening her eyes for the moment, her eyes glowed bright purple for a second then turned back to its emerald colors. She could sense many familiar presences.
But, was he here?

Whether this situation she was in right now is a good thing or not, she doesn't know. But as Elizaveta peered from the behind of her plain white mask, she already know that these peoples around her, they're not ordinary peoples. Rich folks, famous ones, the higher-ups, all blended and mixed into one big writhing mass.
And what is a village girl like her doing here?
Her eyes were now directed at her clothes. Plain white shirt, ordinary black skirt, same black-colored heels. Her long brown hair was tied up into a ponytail. Overall, she looked neat and simple. However, when compared to what the guests of this masquerade wore, her outfit was nothing. What else is there to be expected? I am hired to be a waitress here after all. Not a... a guest.
At least the food was good. And the pay doesn't suck. She was running low of money, and that was perhaps the reason for her presence here.
Leaning to the wall (her turn was over after all, she is allowed to take break now), Elizaveta closed her eyes and let herself to take a few deep breaths in order to calm her frantically-beating heart. Works like these... she was never used to it. Would never be used to it.
But for now though... the Hungarian thought to herself, raising her head to get a good look at an exceptionally good violinist, she would just enjoy this party, the food provided to the workers, and the good music that was played in the time being.

Post by Lovino Vargas on Mar 23, 2010 12:44:43 GMT -5
Lovino choked down a snicker as he deftly lifted a nobleman's coin purse and pocketed it, offering a nod as he walked past him. Green eyes glimmering with sadistic pleasure beneath his black-and-gold mask, he ambled over to the refreshments table and leisurely took a glass of water, sipping it and offering genial smiles to any of the nobles who passed. The dark red wine was tempting, he had to admit, but he'd rather keep his wits about him as he roved about the crowd, relieving nobles of the excessive weight of their purses. He was doing them a favor, really; surely it was much easier to dance without all that extra weight?
Humming quietly to himself, Lovino canvased the room for his next target as he smoothed his black silk shirt. The static cling of the silk was starting to get annoying, but damn he looked good if he might say so himself. The button-down shirt was tucked into his slim dark pants, and he'd polished his boots to a beautiful shine. Hanging from a gold chain around his neck was a thin leather back, into which he easily deposited the small coin purse. Tucked against his chest was a second mask, this one of a slightly different cut and pattern of gold. He was counting on people being too focused on his mask than on the rest of his body; even if he were caught, he was ready to change face. The black silk shirt could be reversed in a second to reveal the brown silk layer sewn on the other side, and given a few moments more, he could tuck the legs of his pants into the tops of his boots.
Aah, that man looked like a good target. Lovino wiped his reflexive grin off his face as he ventured over to the wall, just another dancer taking a break against the wall. Casually, he turned to put his back to the dancers and drew a fine watch from his pocket. Checking the time without really looking at it, as he moved to put it away, his hand snuck into the white-and-gold masked man's pocket. [/blockquote]

Antonio shifted his weight from his left to the right, feeling rather restless. At one point he considered the woman with simple white mask of no elaborations of any sort --but for a reason he was not able to place, he could not find it in himself to leave his spot and so he stood there, arms on either of his side, watching her instead. In the span of minutes, she was gone amongst numerous passer bys, dancing and drinking alike. He nearly cursed himself for not taking enough initiative but he resolved to either find her later, should he still be interested and chatting up the modest guest or maybe find somebody else to dance the night away with.
With a sigh he took a sidelong glance, observant olive-green eyes still at work. A lot of people seemed familiar, he admitted. Why, he even recognized the mess of dark hair that was pulled back this time but opted not to approach, as his new house guest was occupied at the moment. As he scanned, he caught a glimpse of auburn hair that looked oddly familiar, he made a note of remembering the mask this one wore but let his attention drift to see if he could name as much people as he could. Antonio chuckled quietly to himself and was about to turn back to watching the dance floor when his peripheral vision caught sight of an arm that was not there before. With all his will-power, Antonio pretended not to see, amused as he crossed his arms and waited.
The feeling of someone else's hand in his pocket was a weird sort of one but he didn't speak of it until much later when he took hold of the offending wrist with a blithe smile that did not match his tone.
"Surely, you do not think your actions will go unnoticed, Senor."
Antonio was a Knight by trade and by heart. He relied on his observance skills, despite his sometimes belated realizations when he would fail to focus on the big picture.
As he was now, given that he'd forgotten to take a look at the thief.
"I did not know ladrones were invited to this party. But I suppose they do not discriminate. Or did you misplaced something that might be in my pocket?"

It was as if he had stepped into another world. Everyone's faces were covered in exquisite masks of every color and the rich had taken out their finest clothes just for the occasion. Ivan himself had done is best to look good though his button up shirt and black dress pants were a far cry from the exquisite outfits some of the other guests wore. Granted, his outfit was made of fairly nice fabric but that didn't take away the simplicity of it all. His mask, however, was much fancier than the rest of him, a half faced mask done in pale cream and deep reds and golds. Not that the mask would hide his identity at all--no, not in the least. He was still certainly Ivan, tall and broad and with that thick-scarf that he never seemed to go without. The mask was worn more for style than for hiding his identity. After all, who would show up to a masquerade without a mask?
His gaze wandered once he moved passed the entry-way, and into a sea of color. People were everywhere, dancing, laughing, drinking and being all-together rather merry. It was this more than the fact that this was a formal event that interested Ivan.
He'd been to a formal event once before when he was young, though it would be more accurate to say he watched one of his parents' dinner parties from the doorway. But it hadn't been like this. This was far classier event with a lot more people and a much nicer space. The music was pretty good too, he noticed, glancing violet eyes up at the musicians playing to the side.
A quick look at the table laden with food and drink told Ivan what he needed to know; there was no vodka. There was no surprise there; usually people found his drink of choice to be too strong for their liking. It was a pity, but not unbearable--he'd brought some of his own just in case this should happen. And so as he wandered away from the table of consumable substances, he pulled out his bottle and pressed it to his lips, just enough to taste the burn on his tongue. Ah~ it was definitely going to be a nice night. He moved nearer to the musicians, settling himself from out of the crowd, simply enjoying the sights and sounds of the party.

Vash never liked social-gatherings. In fact, he hated them. This wasn't an exception. As he entered the place, he already saw someone pick-pocketing around. He was going to watch out for that now. Walking into the masquerade was something different every time. They say that there are no two masquerades alike. Each one has its own story to tell. And by the looks of the people, some of whom were eyeing him as he walked through the crowd, each one of them had a story to tell or a secret to harbor. Well, Vash didn't look different from them. He wore a black mask which shaped his face perfectly. The cold black porcelain was touching his skin as if ice were grasping him. He wore a long-sleeved white button up shirt with the first two buttons undone. Black pants and leather boots shaped his legs perfectly. A blazer just hung over his shoulders as he kept both of his hands in his pockets. vash had managed to fix himself up a bit as he didn't want to give a bad impression.
He made his way through the rejoicing crowd as they watched the people dance with all the mysteriousness they could hide. Smiling faces just annoyed him. How could they be having so much fun? He heard people gossiping and admiring about the whole party. The gowns, the dresses, the masks and one of the talks here was the wonderful music that was playing. One of which was that wonderful musician which Vash had to admit was playing very good music among the others.
But what irritated him more was the loudness of some noblemen laughing at a few tables with some young women who seemed to be their mistresses. Vash didn't mind and stood up still observing the place. The spacious room was big enough and the ceiling was painted to every single detail. Whoever owned this place had fine taste in art. Vash had now made his way to the veranda. Being in a space with lots of people was one of his dislikes.
Notcing a woman on the veranda watching the people have a merry time, Vash approached her. This was his friend who forced him to come. If not by physical means, well, she had the dark arts with her. Vash recognized those green eyes as soon as he spotted her. "Well, I thought you were here to have fun." he told the young woman beside him. Seraphine Grimaldi, this was the one who forced him to come. Not knowing her intentions for it, he just waited for the reply of this girl. But, wasn't she the reason why he came? Oh yeah... now he remembered, she forced him.

Diran pouted a little as the blonde walked away from him, and turned around to look for someone else. Only a few genuinely interesting things were going on. There was a man with his hand in another man's pocket- he looked away with a little blush that was, thankfully, hidden behind his mask- and there was a tall, broad man in a scarf who stood out from the crowd like a sore thumb. His eyebrows furrowed as he saw the intimidatingly large figure step out of the crowd and drink from a bottle filled with clear liquid- vodka?
"All the curious people seem to enjoy music," he muttered, moving back towards the table laden with food to pull another glass of wine and inelegantly toss it down his throat.
He approached another woman and took her hand, asking her to dance with him. She complied, but was disappointing in conversation- she knew little about religion, couldn't say much about art, and was, from what he could gather, a nobleman's daughter and a complete airhead. Midway through the dance he stepped away, muttered a few words in Armenian, and stepped towards the wall.
Feeling restless, the olive-skinned man strode towards the musicians and stood outside the crowd near Ivan, the tall and rather curious-looking figure. Closing his eyes, he listened to the music for a good while before having an epiphany of sorts: he should have brought his flute! People in this town seemed to enjoy his playing enough to find him in the middle of the evening, so surely it would be just as well-accepted here...
Diran shrugged to himself. "Perhaps not," he thought aloud, folding his hands behind his back and returning his attention to the music.

A man started to approach her and Seraphine need not an introduction to know exactly who that man was. A smile graced her lips as he stood beside her and as they watched the dance go by. Beneath the mask, Seraphine took a quick glance at the man beside her. She had forced him to come here as a friend and companion. Aside that she didn't want to meet any strangers here and she wanted protection. When he spoke, Seraphine felt glad that she had forced him here. "Well young sir, the fun doesn't start yet. So far, its just beginning." she told him as she felt another cool breeze go by them. The cold brushed against her shoulder. The music inside was getting better and better by the minute. Might it have not been the one musician inside that kept the entertainment alive and going.
Seraphine noticed he was fiddling something within his fingers. It must be one of his daggers he keeps concealed incase anything else happens. Seraphine grabbed his hand and started to walk towards the party once more. There might be something interesting that might go on. "Come on now. Don't want to miss the fun now do we?" Seraphine asked as she put down her mask a little bit to reveal a little mischevious smile to Vash. She just didn't know what was wrong with her. Her books did not help her in any way at all with this. She was determined to find out what was wrong with her. Was she sick or something?

Post by Francis Bonnefoy on Mar 24, 2010 1:47:21 GMT -5
Francis slipped through the entrance of the ball easily, a small red-painted smile adorned on his face. Of course, in this particular setting, he cast away the name "Francis", for the night, he was "François Bonnefoy" a beautiful young lady merely having fun at the ball. Nothing was less out of place than that, of course, being a man wouldn't be either, but tonight was a rare chance he did not often get to take advantage of.
Slipping the mask he had chosen especially for the event onto his face, he smiled at his reflection he caught in a mirror hung on the wall. The mask was absolutely exquisite - a "Farfallina" mask, authentic hand made Venetian mask. It was a beautiful carnival-like mask, almost, slanted eye-holes cut into it to make his eyes seem even more alluring. Decorated along those holes and the edges of the mask ere elaborate designs and "crystals" to create a dazzling mask. The design was of turquoise and gold colouring, complimenting his sapphire-like eyes and matching the dress he wore perfectly. Smiling at his powdered and painted reflection, he did an experimental spin in the dress, enjoying the feeling of the fabric flying around himself. Although slightly uncomfortable, it was fine, all for the sake of beauty and fun.
"François" was perfectly fine with the slightly uncomfortable corset that squeezed his rib cage. The person he employed to help him had given him but one strange look before complying in helping fit the contraption around himself. Of course he needed it, otherwise he would've been flat as a board, although that was natural for a man. Of course, he - ahem, she - had exquisite tastes and easily selected a garment that complimented a not-so-busty figure.
The dress he wore over the corset of matching colours and the iron frame that held it up in all its glory was of a lovely shade of golds and turquoise. Selecting one with long sleeves to hide whatever muscle existed on his arms, he thought it was a lovely selection. The embroidery was fabulous, running along near the sleeves ends, along the chest and in two neat rows down from the neckline to the bottom of the dress, where the fabric brushed the floor. Of course, it was made of a fine selection of silk and velvet. There were two patterns along the front of the dress, which he did not mind. They made it all the more wondrous. (The dress's main colour is a light shade of blue, the embroidery the shades of gold.)
Giggling to himself, practicing the correct pitch of his voice h- she, as he had to get used to being called, then proceeded into the crowds of people. It was not five minutes into the mingling before she was asked to dance by a young gentleman, complying and only dancing for the rest of the song, she then left, only to have her company taken by another man. It was not long before she was short of breath, chest heaving uncomfortably in the dress, the room getting only a little blurry and... was it spinning?
Deciding to rest, she found leverage against a wall furthest away from the room full of other people and their body heat to breathe in some of the cool night air. Sighing and regaining some sense in mind, she turned back to the party, wondering where to dance amongst the crowd next...

Diran made another glance around the room, and everything stuttered for a moment- his breath, his hearbeat- when his eyes landed on another blonde woman. He was captivated from the first moment by her dress, an exquisite blue rose of a thing; her heaving bosom as she lay against the wall brought a hidden flush to his face. As soon as she was immersed in the crowd again, he made a beeline for her.
The half-Armenian man shuddered to a halt as he realized how unfit his clothing choice was to be dressing with the woman. She was a flower, and what was he? A flute-playing ranger in a black shirt. His eyebrows slid into their customary positions, right above his eyelids. Uncertainty tore him up for a few moments until he saw another man looking at 'Francois.' That was all he needed- if anyone thought they were going to take this opportunity away from him, he was going to do the only thing he could: retaliate.
Diran stood in front of the elegant woman, offering his hand in a gentlemanly fashion- she was taller than him, was everyone here taller than him? "Would you honor me with a dance?" He spoke only loud enough to be heard above the music and chatter. She really was beautiful, especially up close...
