Canon/OC Character Application
Character name: Mei Hwang
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Height: 4'9'' (shooooort)
Weight: Y-You shouldn't ask a girl that, hua!
Appearance:
She generally wears a pink qipao with gold accents and thin, paler, puffy sleeves that start halfway down her forearm and extend over her hands. She has a skirt of the same material, and it has a long slit up the side, she she can run easily. She has puffy, chima-like pants underneath the slitted skirt, but they are of the same material, so it can be difficult to tell. She wears simple, pink, slipper-like shoes.
She always layers, in case the weather isn't on her side. Always are pink, unique-looking flowers on each side of her head. We don't know where they came from, as her story of them always changes. She also has a wild strand of hair that never sits down. It used to annoy her, but she's relatively used to it.
Personality: Mei is almost always cheerful and perky. She always does her best to keep her head up, and not many things seem to deeply upset or bother her. She blushes very easily (whether it's out of embarassment or anger), but is able to easily accept compliments.
She is very approachable because of how friendly and downright cute she is. Because of her exotic appearence and way of dress, she attracts a lot of attention, even some that is unwanted. Her cute appearence and demeanor can also be useful for trickery, and many underestimate her for her looks.
Mei's cheer belies both a dark resolve and an unbreakable will. She is determined even to a fault, and will even use some more...unorthodox means to get what she wants. She also has a habit of snapping at people whom she dislikes, and she is also quite a worrywort.

Strengths:
Positive- She always seem to be cheerful, and this effect is contagious. She always try to cheer the people around her up, including herself.
Looks- Let's face it, Mei is adorable. She also has a good fashion sense, and also knows what to wear for every occasion. This is very useful for social occasions. Her charming face also makes enemies underestimate her skills, and can be used as a bargaining tool.
Determined- She never gives up- it's just that simple. If she wants something, she will do anything short of hurting someone to get it. She also has a very strong will, so (though she can be quite emotional) she doesn't "fall apart" that often.
Weaknesses:
Greedy- While she does not have a burning lust for everything in the world, she does have somewhat of a greedy streak. She cannot resist shiny, rare, or expensive things. This, again, ties in with her application of certain methods to get what she wants. This is probably because she grew up spoiled.
Prankster- She cannot resist playing harmless pranks on those she loves, and not-so-harmless ones on her enemies. While her tendency to prank doesn't transcend into cruelty, it can seem downright mean sometimes. She is also quite skilled in covering her tracks, unless she wants the prankee to know they got punked by her, in which case she sometimes rubs their face in it.
Lonely- Despite her cheer and friendly attitude, Mei is actually quite lonely. This lonelyness only grows stronger as she is exposed to people who only want to use her for their own gains, or those who only pretend to care for her. Despite some oppurtunities that men bring to her- she only interested in one, whom she knows she can't really have anymore.
History: Mei was born in a far-away eastern kingdom to an aristocrat. She had an older brother (by ten years) and fraternal twin brother. Her mother died from disease shortly before Mei turned one, and Mei has no memories of her. Her father married shortly afterwards, to a widow within the courts of the Son of Heaven (aka the king).
About a year before Mei was born, the Son of Heaven had a son, his only heir. As such, the boy had had potential wives paraded in front of him as far back as he could remember, and the imporatance of his eventual marraige and heir-production were stressed throughout his life. He met Mei shortly before his sixteenth birthday (when he could be legally allowed to marry).
Her parents had taken the fiteen year old to the prince in the hopes that she would marry him and skyrocket their family to the top of the proverbial food chain. Though she was unsure of the idea at first, the moment she spoke with him for even a few moments, she fell in love. The prince, charmed by Mei's sweetness and genuine interest in him, invited her to live with his family in the palace. He invited her family, as well.
The months before her turning sixteen were full of anticipation. Once she was legally old enough, the Son of Heaven expected her to marry him and have many heirs. Many. However, the weeks after her brithday were tense and awkward. While she was still head-over-heels for him, the prince, though he had a genuine likeness of her, was simply not in love with her.
However, he married her nonetheless, to save from incurng his father's wrath. However, he did nothing else to her, much to everyone's perplexion and the king's irritation at not having the possibility for heirs yet. The prince warned her of the king's rising anger and was finally honest with her; he wasn't in love with her.
She ran away from the prince and repeatedly told herself she hated him. Taking up residence with an old woman in the poorer outskirts of the capitol city, she learned magic and set off for adventure somewhere far from home. Though she blatantly denies, she still wishes for her prince and holds affection for him.
Sample Post: Mei's favorite weather had always been very...sunshine-y with just a light breeze. You could do anything on days like those; go garden, go looking for treasure, be with your friends...anything.
However, it was not that kind of day today. It had been raining all night, so everything smelled damp and the sky carried a thick tinge of depressing grey. As such, Mei really didn't want to do anything but stay inside. Thus, that was all she was doing.
Well, maybe she was doing more than that. Well, not really. She was actually supposed to be working on a painting she was going to hang in her bedroom (the poor room honestly needed more colorful things in it!). But then, for whatever reason, the canvas of bright, cheery pinks and yellows didn't appeal to her today.
"Hua...what should I do instead...?" She wondered, pacing around the room in her oriental-stye pyjamas. She gazed again, vaguely disgruntled, at the painting. She rotated her head to look at the expensive sketch book sitting on the end-table beside her bed, pondering.
Of course, nothing artsy seemed to be very appealing today. She didn't have much else in the way of things to do, especially around her residence. Then again, the rest of the world was different from her residence. She could just go out and make her own fun.
"I suppose I could go out," She said, gazing out of her window. The melancholy air really discouraged her, but she was bored enough and the weather wouldn't change just becasue she wasn't inside. Hurridly dressing herself, she hastily left her residence and hopped onto the cobblestone street.
However, her former conception proved wrong. A few momenst after she left the residence, it started to rain. No, not rain, pour. Finding shelter under an overhanging roof, she sighed to herself.
"Just like that day, hua. Raining and pouring."
[A few things to note...First of all, in Mei's sample post, I was going for a more restrained, melancholy feel because I figure it'll be more of a challange to play her darker side than it will her brighter side. If you want me to fix anything on it, or rewrite a new one, I will. Second of all, the people in her history do not necessarily represent Kiku, Yao, Hong Kong, or anyone else. I simply modeled them to seem like they could be. I would never force them into her history without the consent of other players. Third of all, in my headcanon, Taiwan says 'hua' almost like Yao says 'aru.'
I almost forgot this...BRITANNIA BEEEEEAM! *fires mai lazer*
